Massarosa is known mainly for its natural beauty especially for the famous Lake of Massaciuccoli i
Inhabited since prehistoric times, Massarosa was also one of the earliest Roman settlements in the territory of Versilia, evidenced by the ruins of the ancient Baths of Massaciuccoli, also known as Nerone pits or Bagni di Nerone.
Under the hegemony of the Republic of Lucca, from the fourteenth century to the seventeenth century, Massarosa known a period of glory, and many nobles and wealthy merchants of the area began to build their residences in Massarosa, as Villa Baldini of Pauline Bonaparte in Campignano.
The routes along the circuit of Massarosa and Lucchese villas are definitely one of the biggest attractions of the area.
Massarosa is known mainly for its natural beauty, especially for the famous Lake of Massaciuccoli inside the Natural Park of Migliarino, San Rossore Massaciuccoli.
The park extends over the coast between Pisa and Lucca, and also included the ex Presidential Estate of San Rossore, the pinewoods of Tombolo, Migliarinoand Macchia Lucchese. In 2005 the Park was awarded the European Diploma of protected areas and for the richness of its wildlife, is also an oasis LIPU (Italian League for Bird Protection).
