The historical combination Monte Altissimo Michelangelo is only in part true. In fact, the Florentine sculptor spent in this area three years to explore the mountain but, for a variety of technical and financial problems, failed to use its marbles. So, he decided then to buy some blocks in Carrara and ordered to extract other material in the valley of Serra by local skilled workers, the stonemasons.
Starting from the Medicean Seravezza we up the Serra river by touching Riomagno along the daily path of the workers. With good but at times steep trail we reach their country, Fabiano. From here, not far we found the Chapel, a beautiful Romanesque church set in a spectacular location.
The use of the land now change radically: the stone industry sells to the traditional agriculture field . It's on great mule tracks, through secular chestnut "woods", that we get close to Seravezza, admiring "metati" and chestnuts mills. The trip reveals a microcosm of Seravezza definitely hidden.
