Pietrasanta
The beauty of Pietrasanta old town center fits perfectly with the shops of craftsmen of the marble and the laboratories
Pietrasanta was founded by the mayor of Lucca, Guiscardo from Pietrasanta, in the thirteenth century. Over the centuries the city has several dominations: by Lucca, Pisa, Genoa, France and Florence. Pietrasanta has been always sensible to the art, especially to sculpture because of its proximity to the marble quarries, and now it has become a point of reference for artists of Versilia.
His artistic heritage includes remarkable works of famous masters of the chisel. Historical research indicate also the passage of the great Michelangelo, who lived here and chose the marble of nearby marble querries in Seravezza for the creation of his works.
The beauty of the old town center, surrounded by walls built in 1308, fits perfectly with the shops of craftsmen of the marble and the laboratories where they create mosaics renowned throughout the world.
In the old town center is worth visiting the Cathedral of San Martino (fourteenth century), the Baptistery, or Chapel of St. Hyacinth, the Clock Tower, the column of Liberty and the Fountain of Marzocco.
