Walking route to discover Camaiore
Hiking trail on foot to discover the town of Camaiore and its hills
Hiking trail on foot to discover the town of Camaiore.
Slope: +350 -350 metres
Walking time: 4h30 excluding stops
Difficulty: "Trekking" - Required a minimum of training on the rocky bottom, appropriate shoes.
Soil: Small roads paved, unpaved roads, paved mule tracks and paths.
The trip starts from the Badia di Camaiore, a Benedictine complex dedicated to St. Peter dating back to the Vlll Century, so very earlier to the same "new town". For small roads and trails we head towards the rocky gorge of the Rio Lombricese, the energy source of numerous mills, foundries and factories, some of them still in use.
Here everything talks about a thousand'year old history and a constant labor of man, for the rational use and maintenance of the area. Still on the ancient mule tracks of the local roads, ford the horrid throat of Candalla, we reach the village of Casoli and then Metato a remote village only for some decades reached by road.
The Club welcomes us for a well'deserved snack of local products. Then, we go down to the extended woods to the ruins of the Castle of Monte Castrese and finally in Camaiore. Very scenic ride and multifaceted historical cultural and natural aspects.
